I've wrote about this some before, but it is a trend that seems to be gaining some steam. That is users using the phrase "near me" in their local searches. One great way to take advantage of this trend is to add "near me" appropriately to your website pages. In the Google My Business listings in the search results, Google uses proximity to find the best local results. But for the organic results it is kind of a mish mash of different results, depending on the search phrase. So for example, a search for "website design near me" or "SEO near me" might bring up local results, but also results for companies that have content that best matches that phrase.
